You should be able to graph and solve this with this calculator.

Try going through the Plot or Solve functions and putting this equation in.

By the way (x+1)^2 = 36 is the same as (x^2 +2x +1) = 36

It is just a parabola (positive type) with a intercept at x = -1

(1 + x)^2 = 36
Then
(1 + x )(1 + x) = 36
Multiply together using FOIL
1 + x + x + x^2 = 36
1 + 2x + x^2 = 36
x^2 + 2x - 35 = 0
Factorisng
(x + 7)(x - 5) = 0
therefore
x = -7 or x = 5
