I have a netgear router, and it rarely works as needed! It's on the other side of a relatively small house, and it doesn't work in my bedroom. I go downstairs and unplug it to reset it, and then it works for a little while.
Any suggestions as to why this happens or more importantly, how to fix it???

Thanks for your help!

If you are needing to reset the router to get it to work again then it could be it is failing or faulty from the get go when you purchased it.

If you had said that you simply where not getting reception in the bedroom, but everywhere else in the house was able to fine, then I would say you needed a range extender attached to the Router with a cable then set in a place closer to your bedroom.

But, that isn't what you wrote, you state that you sometimes have connection in the bedroom and only resetting the Router will allow you to re-establish a connection that was lost. What I am wondering is it this happens in the rest of the house too, but more often in the bedroom.

If it happens in the rest of the house too, and more often in the bedroom, you may have a double issue of both a faulty router and a range issue. In the case you would need to contact the manufacturer to troubleshoot the router and purchase a ranger extender.

What protocol are you using? 802.11b, g, or n? Routers and adapters which support the newest protocol 802.11n offers not only higher speeds within your network, but a much larger range of signal without having to resort to range extenders. However, 802.11n Routers and compatible adapters are the more expensive because of how new it is. While it is not officially declared yet, it is still being widely used and has shown these better speeds and range of signal within the home. Often you can also get signal outside your home too.

Now, it occurs to me that it is possible you are experiancing interference with other devices. Microwaves, some cordless phones which use the same 2.4ghz range, even refrigerators, metal filing cabnets, florescent lights, walls, etc can all interfer in a Wireless connection signals ability to be received by an adapter. It is also good to check your antena position to ensure optimal reception. Sometimes just moving your antena more so it is in a direct line with the router can help it receive a better signal more relaibly.

So, first make sure you are in range, check for any interfering items or devices and if these do not work perhaps contacting the manufacturers technical assistance phone number can help you pinpoint the trouble. If this is a new Router or Adapter and it turns out to be faulty, return it and get a different one.

Hope this provides some ideas on what to look for in order to fix this issue. Good luck and have a nice day.

hi unfastened *****, permit's syart with pulling your modem to the place you could unplug it from the returned basically unplug and wait approximately thirty seconds then plug it returned in now reboot your pc once you notice your homestead windows logo start up tapping f8 scrol all the way down to final good configuration(improve) now attempt it returned and notice in case you will get on line then if not than circulate to regulate panel then hit this methodology&good factors or in case you have homestead windows vista or homestead windows xp than all of us understand what the situation truly is close this returned on your pc and place your tuneup diskett on your dvd burner and there you will see ethernet and usb chipset then that's going to ask you to reboot once you get returned on your pc than attempt it. that's going to be on line yet while that's not the situation then call your information superhighway provider and ask for the tech help, they're going to gladly and civilly help you to get on line in the event that they don't then time to circulate to a dsl broadband connection. good success wish i grew to become into effective to you
