Let's, for once, grow up and drop the race card issue, OK???

Louisiana Governor Blanco and NOLA Mayor Nagin both did NOT meet and construct TOGETHER a well built and solid safe Major Hurricane Disaster Management Plan. So when Katrina blew in......Blanco and Nagin were CLUELESS on what to do; they looked to Bush.

Bush appointed a wealthy campagin contributor to FEMA Chief---a horse trainer--who had NO experience or business even running FEMA. When Kat blew in, FEMA Chief went blank......as did his boss, George Jr.

Whose to blame? Take your pick---there's NO wrong answer!!

Katrina was color blind; she f**ked up EVERYBODY directly and/or indirectly in her path. It's shocking to see images of NOLA poor---BOTH black AND white suffering for days post-Katrina as they did. But they ALL made an oddessy out Louisiana. And even though they landed in some sports arena converted into survivor shelter in a strange state, they had far more than US WHO WERE LEFT F**KING BEHIND W/ NO POWER, NO FIRE PROTECTION, NO EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE OR SERVICE AND STRAINED (at best) LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICE FOR AT LEAST TWO MONTHS!!!!

And the former NOLA housing ghetto residency still out Louisiana, bewoing they can't return "home". Guess what??? Louisiana AND American both don't have the $$$$ to build any more housing projects. If the U.S. isn't spending 50 BILLION a month on Iraq war, they're eyeing tossing $$$$ to some college Nobel Prize sniffer who wants to put Dell PC laptop computers in the hands of every third world kid in some empoverished island on Earth I can't even pronounce, much lest spell.

And how was your week????

I think people have to look at really who was the real people to blame. As a resident of Louisiana, I saw that the Hurricane's path was headed right to New Orleans on Wednesday. If I saw it, I know the Governor and the Mayor of New Orleans(saw it) and should have ordered people on that day to prepare to evacuate. They did not do this until Saturday and Sunday, Katrina hit on early Monday. As head officials of these areas, they had the responsibility to aid these people in getting out. Some people were able to, others had no money, others were being hard-headed and not leaving. The ones that had no money should have been offered the 100's of buses that were ultimately flooded because they sat parked. The response was slow because Governor Blanco did not request assistance from the President right away. She didn't know what she was doing. The levees had been built in the 1970's. A year or so prior to Katrina, New Orleans had a mock hurricane conducted, and they failed. They weren't even prepared for a mock. The governor and mayor knew about that, yet did not prepare. There was also money that FEMA sent to New Orleans during a hurricane season prior( for minor assistance) that is totally unaccounted for. Nobody can account for where it went. If people only would see the truth, it would make the news coverage of Katrina look like a cartoon.

Historically, the federal government has furnished resources (manpower and funding) to local/state agencies as a result of a declared state of emergency. However, the mindset of many of these politicians - as you know - is to get re-elected, rather than to do the job for which they were elected. As a result, they spend their time and effort primarily on the social programs, rather than meeting the NEEDS of their constituents - so nothing is accomplished.

It's easier to do nothing prior to a disaster and blame someone else for failure to act - compared with planning ahead. Think about it - what politicians REALLY did the job they were elected to do - then got out of office?

I've seen it too many times.

For the following four reasons.

1. He's a Republican, had he been a Democrat like the
Governor of Louisana and the Mayor of New Orleans he's
have gotten a free pass.

2. He's White, we all know no whites died or lost houses
because of Katrina

3. Because he's male.

4. Because he's a Christian, add this to the top three and
according to liberals GW is the Devil incarnate.

Bush waited around and did nothing to make the BIG Republican, State's rights point that State's shouldn't expect the Federal Government should help them in a disaster. He wanted to prove that State's could take care of themselves using their own taxes rather than Federal money.
Judging by the huge amounts of deaths, property destruction, and widespread panic and chaos (I never thought I'd see the world "refugees" used about Americans in my lifetime) he was very wrong for a disaster of this magnitude!
Thanks for the tax cut, George, but that is no excuse for not giving a crap when Americans die!!!

first off .....roadhazzards, plenty of white people lost homes and alot of white people died. New Orleans mayor is an idiot. I'm sick about hearing about all that they have lost. I live here on the Mississippi gulf coast. I was truly blessed, I didn't lose my home, my husband didn't lose his job. I just get sick when the national news fails to include us. Many of my friends and family lost everything, I had a friend who died (she was white).
I think Gov. Barbour did a good job for us in MS. Bush, well, I'm not sure, he could have done better. Sorry I guess I just had to vent

no one is blaming Bush for the disaster. and trust me the mayor and governer are insulted jus as much. but bush did not do anything to help and really acts like he does not care about louisiana. they are not getting paid big money. N.O is still a long ways from getting back up, and they are doing stuff but they cant do much without help from the president. i live 20 mins from new orleans so i should know.

Especially after TPTB in N'Oleans had 40 ! years of warning and money with which to repair/update the floodwall/dikes.

Especially after Mayor Ray "schoolbus" Nagin refused to use dozens of empty schoolbuses to move people from the floodable areas

Especially after Congressman William "coldcash" Jefferson hijacked a rescue craft to take him to recover his stolen loot from the freezer.

//sarcasm mode ON//
Bah..I guess it's the president's fault...everything is, n'est ce pas?

He didn't ratify Kyoto. Without Kyoto Green House Gasses ran rampant and caused the hurricane. Hurricane hit New Orleans and there you have it.

Bush didn't ratify Kyoto because it's another lame U.N. project that won't work.

Because the President is in charge of FEMA and it took FEMA months to respond with the aid to Katrina victims because some genius placed FEMA under the umbrella of Homeland Security and they depleted a large portion of FEMA funding on training and weapons.
