You need to be aware that you are at the end of the busy summer season and that, on a three-day weekend, the rates will be high even in a place that isn't all that uppity.

You might try a small town close to SA such as New Braunfels, Hondo, Elmendorf, or Bulverde for a better deal than you might get in San Antonio proper.

San Antonio is a very large city and if you give us an idea where you want to be, we could be more help. Otherwise, you could end up with a hotel that is a 2 hour drive from your friend. Also, what do you consider cheap??

Super 8 or Motel 6. Either one is inexpensive and non-sleazy depending on where you re staying. Go to 281.

Super 6, Motel 6 are both very inexpensive. I would try to limit that to the Medical center area or the one near Lackland AFB, I would not stay in the one down town, it is very unsafe there.
