To point you in the right direction is a figure of speach. He can give you directions to your designation with out any arm movement. If you were on the phone getting directions is he still pointing you in the right direction even though its over the phone?

It doesn't matter. If someone can DIRECT you in the right direction, then extended members mean nothing.
