ALL batteries die after a period of time...it just happen to "die" after you upgraded.

There are no DRIVERS to charge a battery, that is built into the laptop computer.

The price of the battery may shock you into buying a new laptop instead :)

It could be that the battery is too old. They usually only last about 2-3 years. After that, they will no longer hold a charge.

But (and I own two M700, and use to support about 70 of them at work) the M700 are infamous for the curcuit board within them that connects to the battery going bad. The board is wired by solder to the system board, and so is not easy for a user to change it. Requires being able to unsolder the original board and then solder in a new board. Not recommended for the inexperienced. (Sorry!)

Try replacing the battery first. If that does not work, you will need professional help to replace the circuit board with the battery connector.

It sounds as though your battery has died.

You could try to source a replacement but that may prove expensive so why not get a compatible replacement rather than a direct replacement.

You may also try searching for companies who refurbish battery packs.

I used a comapny about 8 years ago - sorry, I don't remember their name now... and the guy who ran teh company was able to replace the worn out cells with better ones (more capacity) for less than the price of a new battery.

Sounds like the cells in your battery have died. Unfortunately, you should purchase a new one from Compaq which may cost a small fortune. As previous posters have said, replacement batteries are not cheap, but you will at least get a guarantee if you buy from the original manufacturer.
