I got a huge file of 700+megas transfered, only to find out when I tried to open that there was an error downloading codec. This is for an .avi extension file.

Is this problem repairable or is this an original encription problem?

Try installing the XviD codec.

What that means is that you are missing the proper information for decoding the video file. The most common avi format that is not included with Media Player is called "divx". You can download it for free a http://divx.com

(You do not need the Divx Player or the Web Player for the divx codec to work. So you can uncheck those when downloading the codec is you want.)

One cure-all solution I use is the K-Lite codec pack. The full version comes with every codec under the sun, and I've never come across a codec not on the codec pack.

You probably just missing the codec.

Search for codec packs on google. I can't remember the name of the one I use but there are several that should work just fine.

It's only because you don't have the correct codec to play the file...

Most are Divx or Xvid codecs.... Search for them or go to
