I am breastfeeding him and wanted to know if at 2 weeks gaining almost 3lbs is normal?

He only "drinks" from each breast for only 5 to 10 mins then he falls off. Is that normal also?

Gaining 3 pounds at 2 weeks is very healthy! Most docs are happy to see a baby get back up to their birthweight by 2 weeks, anything more than that is great! My daughter is a fast eater too, never did need to eat longer than 5 minutes or so to fill up. I think its because I have a strong letdown, you may too.

I breastfeed also, and I can only say from personal experience. My pediatrician told me at my daughters 2 week check up that they expect breastfed babies to gain approximately and oz a day. But all babies differ and I can't imagine a breastfed baby overeating. They normally worry about them not gaining enough, instead of too much!

Great job on deciding to nurse!

You are packing some great milk. Yes, he is gaining plenty of weight. Pedicatricians usually like to see breast fed babies more often to double check weight, but you will have a chunky monkey on your hands in no time.

For a boy it is especially if he was a small baby at birth. The smaller babies eat heaps to catch up. Dont worry, gaining lots of weight is good! You should worry if he doesnt gain or loses! Congrats! I have a 2 month baby girl
