It's not just really stupid.
It's been shocked and stressed by something that was done to it, namely the tank change.

When you changed tanks, something about the new tank was not received well by your friend's fish.
Most likely the water temperature/quality/speed of the fish transfer. Probably, it was moved from one tank to the other too quickly? Like when you dive into a pool on a very hot day and the water's icy cold. That kind of shock is easily a fish-killer.

Please read up on your fish and learn how to move them from tank to tank in the correct way before moving them.
Just like with humans, some fish are tougher than others; so to keep them all healthy, try to do things slowly and carefully and by the book.

Good Luck to your floating fishy!!
Good Luck to the one that survived!!

Ok First Of All Don't Panic! Ok Usally When It Floats It's Either Asleep Or It's Just Tired Or Weak Just Keep An Eye On It And If It Continues To Do This For A Day Take It To A Vet Maybe It Just Has To Get Used To It's Tank.

fish have air bags in each side to allow them to stay straight and when one pops it will float on the top of the water on its side and unfortunatly there is nothing you can do and could float around for a few months before it dies
