Base ball to USA & CAnada
Rugger to south Africa & new zealand
track & field to Germany & Russia

Cricket is popular only in Common wealth Countries. Mostly
it is looked upon as a casual fun time event in many countries
except in sub-continent India. It is not as popular as Soccer.
Since India won the WC in '83, and then Pak in '92 and
SL in '96 it has boosted many more fans.
Actually in India it started with the test series wins in '71
against WI and Eng. To top that, India and Pak series started
to play each other and rivalry between these two teams was
at its best. Hence Cricket started with a big bang in
sub-continent India.
But it has lost its charm in the test cricket and that can be
seen with the attendance even in sub-continent. They are
never sold out.
Only ODIs make full attendance and hence to insight more
thrills, they are bringing in 20/20 which may bring more fans.

Cricket is not as popular as u think ,maybe in India and other cricketing nations but then it dosn't come anywhere near to soccer or other team sports.
