(If you live in a Residential area)
post your fliers directly onto the mailboxes in your area.
If no mailboxes are available, then simply post stacks of your ad anywhere such ads are accepted; the library, your local grocery store, or any place that people gather.
You could opt to place your ads directly onto parked cars at any parking lot or street-side.
Post your ads on parked cars at the park!
GOOD LUCK!
Repeat your offer so much that people will know you without trying to think of you.

I don't personally suggest babysitting and petsitting at the same time. I would not want my child to be in a house with a bunch of animals. Maybe you could schedule different times to do each. I would make two separate flyers (one for babysitting and one for petsitting). If you are going to be dealing with the public (parents, etc.) you have got to get over being shy. Put the flyers up on light poles, in conveinent stores, etc. Good luck.

You can post them up at local community centers or the library, but you'd probably be better off putting them in the mailboxes of your neighbors.

Be careful of who you accept as a client - don't go alone in the house of any man you don't know (having kis kids present doesn't count). Bring a parent or sibling with you for the initial meeting, just as a precaution.

Slip your flyers in the front storm door of homes in your neighborhood.

Knocking on the door, introducing yourself, and offering the flyer would be a good experience in getting over being shy. But go with a friend.

You and mom are both a little too optimistic about this. Starting a business is NOT that easy. Before you can even advertise you need to claim your business name, register with the county/town/city, obtain taxing information (tax id number), and obtain insurance for ALL aspects of the business (doubt it's the same for pets as it would be for people). This is all a LEGAL "must have", btw, or you could be fined/jailed (or mom could be) for operating a business without. Mom will have to obtain just about all of that for you. Minor instruction in something isn't going to cut it. Neither will love of animals (or babies/children). Parents and pet owners are not going to hire some stranger teen, tween, etc with no experience, no references, and no qualifications. You need to be CERTIFIED in pet first aid. CERTIFIED in CPR and basic first aid for children and/or infants. You need to have some sort of PROFESSIONAL recommendations that outline your reliability and knowledge in the fields you are exploring. You also need to have legal documents for all parties to sign that allow you to obtain medical care for your charge(s) if required. Not to mention documents removing you of all liability. Lawyers usually have to draw these up. You also need reliable transportation. I don't know of a single parent or pet owner who would hire someone without the bare minimum i listed above. I certainly wouldn't. The economy is crappy, so you also have to consider that people will not hire someone for certain services if they can provide it themselves OR find a cheap professional place to do it. Stick to job searching for an actual job. If you don't hear from someone, CALL THEM YOURSELF to ask about how the process is going. Keep applying. You don't find a job the instant you start looking - it can take weeks or even months. You have no guarantee that you will have any clients doing your own business, anyway.....

Many stores in your area probably either have bulletin boards where you can post them, or allow people to put flyers up in their window. Look around and see what places already have flyers, and ask if you can put yours up too.

Good luck.

Many grocery stores or shopping malls have community bulletin boards you can put your ads on. Also try posting on Craigslist. They have a lot of localized exposure that could be good.
