Cliff Burton is one of my favorite bassist's of all time, the man was a God!!!

Definitely Cliff...The albums they made with him are far better-in my opinion than the later ones. Their sound seems to have changed when Jason started, and although all of their albums kick ***, I like the first few. Rob is awesome too, but Cliff was the better in my opinion. He was a big part in writing those first albums.

Cliff Burton However Jason Newsted is very good himself,but Metallica never let his talent shine.Check out his work with Flotsam & Jetsam. He was the band lyricist,and bassist for them. Then Robert Trujillo.He has a lot of talent.And was a beast with "Suicidal Tendencies" and he can play the Cliff Burton songs perfectly. I'm not all that familar with Ron Mcgovney.I've heard some of the stuff he did on the Metallica demos but don't I think it's great.

Cliff Burton was the best, but I do like Rob Trujillo - I especially liked him when he played with Infectious Grooves.

I would have to go with Cliff!! Thou Jason is a great Bass player aswell!! I'll go with Cliff since he is one of my fav. bassist of all time!

Oooo! Tough one! I gotta say Cliff, but Rob is fantastic & is a charismatic showman, The way he crouches when he plays. The guy looks like a bass playing lion.

jason,more work done,if cliff had 9 cd's out id say him,but he dont,and les claypool is the best bassist ever,so is timmy commerford

Cliff was amazing,but Robert is pretty good as well.His style is unique.

i will have to say Cliif.
Jason it seems never played as well as he could have.
Robert is good, but he is still "new" to the band.
my favorite bassist of all time is Steve Harris of Maiden.
