My listing expires 9/20/07 and I would like to rent my house out starting October 1st. Should I send anything to my current Realtor before the listing expires to let him know I won't be renewing the contract? Does an expired listing automatically mean my house is no longer on the market or do I have to do something else for that too?

Once your listing expires, you are allowed to switch Realtors. Your house is not automatically taken off the market, you should notify your Realtor to do that.

Having your house listed with a realtor is basically a contract with that realtor that prohibits you from selling through another realtor or to someone without your listing realtor getting commission for the sale (like if someone saw the sign in front of your house and approached you about buying it without going through a realtor, to avoid real estate agent fees).

If you intend on taking the house off the market and renting it instead, inform your realtor of your intention. That way, the realtor won't waste his/her time and money marketing the house.
