Suppose you are given the formula (y+3)/4 = ± (x+2)/9 for the asymptotes of a hyperbola. What is the formula for the hyperbola?
Specifically, can you tell how this hyperbola opens? Can you tell if it opens up-down, or to the sides?

You cannot tell whether the hyperbola with these asymptotes opens up-down or left-right. Both
(x + 2)^2/9^2 - (y + 3)^2/4^2 = 1 and
(y + 3)^2/4^2 - (x + 2)^2/9^2 = 1 have those same asymptotes.
