I just got this laptop and I've realized something extremely irritating..I like to watch movies, as does a lot of people..but when I watch a movie on this laptop the screen is....I don't know how to explain it, I guess the term would be too "glossy" during dark images in a movie, such as night-time scenes, the screen is too bright or glossy which makes the movie seem like complete shadows.
Instead of being crisp and clear like my desktop it's simply glossy and not very well for movies..so I was wondering if anyone knows a way to fix this problem?

The screen is such kind n nothing can be done..they are the glossy finish n not the other type of matt finish...
They look good wen u work from nearby...but not so great wen there is so much light etc,,try decreasing the brightness n also the refresh frequency n try again...

You can manually change the "glossyness" by changing the brightness and contrast in your display settings. However, it isn't unusual for the computer screen to just have a bad picture quality, either from your graphics card, your personal settings, or just the screen itself. It somewhat hard to dictate since the actual laptop isn't sitting in front of me.
The only thing i would suggest is calling the manufactorer, or the store you bought it from (circuit city, bestbuy) and asking for help. Since this service is provided when making a purchase in this magnitude.

Check your video card on board maybe it is not enough for high resolution movies or did the video driver of your laptop has been installed??
, or maybe you need to install video codects. try to use Divx, it it has better video quality if you are watching dvd... you can download a free edition here:

re install ur video card driver.
and use a good quality media player to watch movies.
u should see a clear and perfect picture on ur laptop screen

Thats crystal screens for you - don't work outside in the sun well either!
