I saw Motley Crue in 1989 in Roanoke, VA, and I am convinced to this day that I lost a small percentage of my hearing that night.

Metallica-My ears rang for a week

Sonic Youth at the Wadsworth Hall (something like that) in L.A. near UCLA. That show was so ridiculously loud that my ears literally (and I don't mean literally as in figuratively, I mean literally) rang for 3 days. I've never experienced anything quite like it. I'm convinced no band can mess up your hearing like Sonic Youth. Some of the frequencies they go after with the guitars can get so intense. Just awesome.

Honorable mention to a band called the Switch that was kind of a Ventura County/L.A. County act. They used to play this small brewery in a town called Upland, CA and once or twice they didn't really adjust their amps for the size of the room. It was in a good way though. They had the whole rock attitude and were particularly thrashy and fun when they would get into that zone. I miss those guys, they were great. They had a really cool sound, kind of a throwback to the late 70s Stooges-y thing.

Sometimes it isn't necessarily the loudest band but the place with the worst acoustics. I saw Local H at The Lounge Ax back in 1996. For all you out-of-towners, this place was the concert venue from the movie High Fidelity. It got shut down because the neighbors didn't care for the noise it generated. Anyway, I saw them on a Saturday night. My head felt like a watermelon until about Tuesday of the following week. I don't think it caused permanent damage cuzz I still got rabbit ears!

Probably the first concert I went to that I was on the floor for. Cause it was a combination of me not being used to the loud sound and it was also a pretty small place so it kept the sound in. I saw Rise Against and they were amazing. My ears were still ringing the next day haha

Metallica on the "And Justice For All" tour in 1990. I too think I lost a small percentage of my hearing that night

Gizmachi, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God all opening for Slipknot on the Subliminal Verses Tour. My ears rang for 2 days after that.

I saw Meat Loaf about a month ago in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. It was a very contained area and the sound couldn't get out that well.

I can't rightly recollect, it was some warm up acts for Kenny Chesney...it was awful because it was too loud and the sound system was all out of whack. I just walked out and waited until Kenny showed up. :P

But the loudest concert I went to that I really enjoyed was Hank Williams III (he sings both country and death metal during the same concert, its pretty wild.)

I saw Motley Crue last year and it was pretty freakin' loud, man. We were up close too, so it was even louder. I heard people saying it was loud in the 300's, and it was like, you have no idea!

Butthole Surfers '96 at the Peoria Civic Center. Awesome live show. Would also have to include Sick Of It All '99 at the Madison Theatre in Peoria. They opened up for Slayer, and blew them away!!
