It is definitely a double standard. In a perfect world, both sayings would be acceptable as statements of self-confidence and pride. However, in today's world there is too much negative history behind the phrase "white is beautiful" for it to be okay. People remember Hitler's regime, which was based off the idea that white is the most beautiful race, and feel uncomfortable hearing "white is beautiful." People think of the KKK and other white supremacists and think that "white is beautiful" is just a stepping stone to a more extreme way of thinking. On the other hand, "black is beautiful" is taken as an empowering statement because of the many years during which the black people in America were told that they weren't beautiful, that they were second-class to the whites. Perhaps people would be more comfortable with a saying like "white is beautiful TOO" because the current one reminds them of "ONLY white is beautiful." Then they could realize that the statements aren't mutually exclusive, but rather extensions of the most accurate phrase: "every color is beautiful."

All races are beautiful in their own way, and anyone can say so. I don't understand why people ask such questions when you know it only brings controversy. It is sad that some white Americans don't see why blacks have to make their own standards high and be proud of that because no matter how we look at ourselves as a race we will have some whites looking down on us. So if saying "Black is Beautiful" makes us feel good, so be it. Quit worrying about the little things and start working on the real issues.

It is a double standard but you have to think about the history of blacks in this country. White people were made to feel like they were inferior. So saying things like "Black is beautiful" is a way to boast the spirits of African Americans or Blacks around the world.

i have seen several questions like this on yahoo. You can't have an all white school or an all male club or do or say things that mimic segregation/civil rights violations of the past because that's where we were and we do not want to go back to it. When society encourages minority groups to say things like black is beautiful or females are the smarter sex etc, it is not because it is necessarily true, it is because it encourages us to move away from the discriminatory attitudes of the past. The fact that this is becoming an issue now means that we are getting closer to gender equality and racial equality, not reverse racism.

It is, but will answering this question change the world? 'Colour is beautiful', end of story. I dont think anyone is more beautiful than the other(though it seems so when one is glorified above the other, so it depends on how you see it), as beauty is an equally distributed trait in the human race.

The white adult adult males might purchase those slaves however the enslavement replaced into completed by using different blacks. consequently, the Masai might seize a Zulu and sell him to the slavers, and then the Zulu might seize a Masai and sell him to the slavers, and that they might the two finally end up working element by using element on a plantation someplace.

kyle g: "Whites don't have to say white is beautiful. It's understood through popular culture. The re-affirming of black is beautiful is a constant because of the perpetual negative connotations given about blacks through popular culture and stereotypes."

I think white people can say they are beautiful. We just can't have history months or cultural/heritage centers or organizations "for advancement"... because we already rock the party and have consistently rocked it for 100s of years.
