Simply install Abiword (free) and you can do what you need to do.

DELL laptops - Inspiron 1150 First one, in basic terms one, and it sucked. a pair of three hundred and sixty 5 days after i bought it, the motherboard crammed up - had to get replaced. a pair of three hundred and sixty 5 days after that, the hard disk failed, so I had to get a clean one. Then, a three hundred and sixty 5 days and a 0.5 after that, I discovered that the Inspiron 1150 had a layout flaw that compelled the fan to suck up airborne dirt and dust (which defined the consistent overheating). I opened the keyboard and metallic underbody (which helps the keyboard), unscrewed the fan, wiped clean out the vent which became caked in airborne dirt and dust (and that i advise lots. It became a pair of million/a million.5cm thick with airborne dirt and dust), placed the fan back in, start up the laptop and it did no longer boot (and likely, I did touch a metallic component of the back of the laptop to do away with static electrical energy). My call reports with Dell are stable and undesirable. First time, it took around >50 min to get with the aid of (I fell asleep on the telephone, ha), however the 2d time, it took 2 min. yet, there are people who think of that Dells are an exceedingly stable sort. i'm particular it is fantastic for those human beings, yet i do unlike them.

Best Buy is a good place to go for that kind of stuff. They have good prices for the type of lap top that you are looking for. You can check thier online site as well, but I would suggest going into the store so you can have the correct knowledge you need. Also the actual store may have a better selection.

you can always go to a flea market and find a nice cheap laptop that will save type and print whatever you need

You can get one from anywhere. You can try Dell.com and just get their most basic computer for less than $600. Or you can go to Craigslist.com and search for one in your area that is used. Good luck in finding one!

they sell really cheap ones at walmart... just ask em and see if it has microsoft word or something on it...im sure they do... heres one for only $400 i dont no how cheap u meant...
