I know the April 4th part is MLK jr's death. But what about the first verse and the barbed wire fence and empty beach?

Here's the lyrics:

One man come in the name of love
One man come and go
One man come, he to justify
One man to overthrow

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

One man caught on a barbed wire fence
One man he resist
One man washed on an empty beach.
One man betrayed with a kiss

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love

(nobody like you...)

Early morning, April 4
Shot rings out in the Memphis sky
Free at last, they took your life
They could not take your pride

In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love
In the name of love
What more in the name of love...

I think these fans are on to it, makes perfect sense to me: http://hem.bredband.net/steverud/U2MoL/UF/pride.html

Remember, the band is from Ireland, where religion and intolerance of others' beliefs has brought much bloodshed. I can easily see the elements of Jesus and MLK Jr. here.

i suppose the primary facet is approximately Christ ('betrayed with a kiss'...might be even the 'barbed cord fence' as a metaphor for the crown of thorns, i am not certain) and the moment facet is approximately MLK jr. This music is most likely approximately Martin Luther King Jr. and Christ. They each made the excellent sacrifice all "within the identify of affection." What extra will probably be performed earlier than the sector is at peace? Who else appearing for romance by myself will probably be introduced down? Another strong message from U2.... It's most likely approximately Martin Luther King JR, I suppose. I checked the dates.. MLK was once assasinated April four, 1968 in Memphis. I bet you Christ form of works.. If you are taking out the April four, and the "pictures.. within the memphis sky"

It's about April 4, 1968, the day MLK was shot & his legacy in the world while alive.

The whole song is about MLK, so I am thinking the fence and the beach are metaphors for MLK being the target of persecution by many groups and regions that were anti-integration.
