My friend says its good, but it looks like it might be an offensive movie. Is it okay or not? I have family members with mental retardation, so I don't want to see it if it's going to be mean.

I liked it. Thought it was cute...
About it being offensive, no. And the reason... The Special Olympic committee was involved with the entire process of the making of the movie. They okayed some things and cut out others. They made sure while making the movie to not offend mentally challenged people.

I don't think it's offensive. When i heard about it i didn't like the idea, but i know johnny knoxville is a good guy and would never be part of anything that made fun of mentally challenged people. Brian cox who plays his unlce was another person who gave the movie credibility so i gave it a go.
At first i thought it exploited them and they were just used as props but as the movie progressed I realized that this movie raised awareness for mentally disabled people and showed them in a positive light and that they are just as capable of doing regular things and having the same experiences as anyone else.

The way it was done was actually sort of pro-mental retardation, like the retarded guys were written as being smarter than Johnny Knoxville's character, and he ends up learning a lesson about why what he did was wrong, blah blah blah. However, what I found offensive was the waste of my $9 movie admission fee and 2 hours of my life I'll never get back, because that had to be one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen. And I love Johnny Knoxville, so you KNOW the movie had to be bad for me to think that.

It is mean - but it is really mean towards those who make fun of mentally challenged people.
The Farrelly brothers are tremendous supporters of Special Olympics and mentally challenged folks. They even had several real, mentally challenged people in the movie. Even though they do some silly things and make you laugh, it is really no different than making anyone look silly in a movie.
The movie is brutal towards people who are mean to the mentally challenged and makes such people look dispicable. The mentally challenged are treated with dignity and it portrays them as just wanted to be treated like everyone else.
I think that is the biggest message - that we should treat handicapped people no differently than anyone else. And that includes lauging at silly things they do.
Plus I don't think I've laughed so hard at a movie in years. And Katherine Heigl is totally hot.

This whole country needs to pull the collective stick out of it's ***. I'm Jewish and nothing makes me chuckle more than a well-crafted hebrew crack. Although mental retardation might make "special" people a little slower, I think they might take offense at the thought of not being able to take a joke. Let's all grow up a little, and have a laugh, when you think about it, it's all we really have any control over.

The Special Olympics approved the movie before it was released.
I did not find it offensive and my sister has Cerebral Palsy.
Don't take to PC and just enjoy it,,,,

It was a bit offensive, but you cant take it seriously, its just a movie, and I'm sure the purpose wasnt to offend anyone.

The creators went out of their way to make sure it wasn't offensive to mainstream audiences. If you consider yourself more sensitive than the mainstream, then watch with caution, or just see something else.

Its alot of bad acting..special people dont act entirely like they did in the movie..it was a 3/5 i would say

its not mean at all. i thought i would be laughing at them, but i was laughing with them. it is pc.
they had the chance to make the best movie ever, and they blew it.
