Make her a little basket of some small necessaties. Maybe a bottle, bottle cleaner, some bibs, etc. None of that stuff is to expensive and she'll need as much as she can get.

A changing table on the go. I love mine and if you are running out of the house for a quick errand it is all you need. (and maybe a bottle if bottle feeding) This one is just 8 dollars. Add some wipes and a bib and you have a nice present for less than 15 dollars.

Target has really cute novelty onesies ("Just testing you!" or "Worth the Wait" or "My daddy does my hair") for $2.50. Why not buy a cute basket and like 4 of those and roll them up and put them in there. Buy the 3-6 month size so she can grow intot hem, since baby is out of the nb size super fast!!

If she's registered just pick something in your price range and budget from her list... If she's not registered get her a baby photo album or keepsake type gift that's from the heart but, not all that expensive.. Make sure you get her e-mail address/ current address/phone number and try to touch base with her as often as you can and see if you two can't become pals again...

Buy her something off of her registry. If she is not registered or everything on there is too expensive, go to Kohl's, Target, or your local department store and look at the sale racks. You can even buy her something for the baby to wear when it is a year old--get 24 month summer clothes.

well considering you haven't talked to her I probably wouldn't go myself. You could buy a small bag of diapers and some stuff from a dollar store like trial size of shampoo and lotion, etc. and small toys or brush and comb.
You could get a diaper kake or a towel kake for the mom.
You can make them yourself or buy one they are online everywhere.
But since it's for someone you don't talk to don't put that much effort into it.
Good Luck
