You need to buy a new cord and remove the top portin of the lawnmower. Just the 4-6 bolts that hold the pull start on to the rest of the mower.
Then you have to coil up the rop on the pulley and tie it off. Not too hard if you are handy with tools but tough if you aren't.
A lawnmower shop should be able to fix it for 50 bucks or so.

There is normally 4 bolts that hold the unit on take them off usally a 8-10mm spanner. Once you have it off either take it to a hire shop IE hewden speak to a mechanic, they will probably give you a length of starter cord it isn't expensive, get a spare while you are there feed it through and replace the unit. To adjust the tension simply hold the cord and spin it 3-4 times to shorten the length of pull it will make the cord less likely to snap in future.

I guess its the same as what we had to do on our hedgetrimmmer. You have to find the where the cord holder is and then get it off and put in a new cord around the spring. Its quite fiddly but simple with two people on the job.

You can take the pull mechanism apart and restring the pull cord. It isn't a real difficult process if it is easy to get at.

You take it to a small engine shop. Simple. Doesn't cost much to replace a cord and, as a bonus, you get it done right.

there should be a cover on the top. Take the screws out, lift the cover. go with the model # to local HDepot and buy new. there should be a place at the bottom of the pull spool to put the rope thru. put it thru ,tie knot, wrap around coil, place thru hole in cover, replace cover, re-attach pull handle. done.
