I moved to GA from cali w/ my five year old. The father does not pay child support or exercise his visitation rights. He just calls to yell at me all the time and make threats that he is going to take me back to court for custody. How do I change the venue to GA? And if anyone has any good contact numbers for the San Bernardino County child support office that would be great. ( I have called and left voice mails for weeks now and NO ONE ever calls me back)

You have to file a motion in a Georgia court seeking a change in venue. Whether they grant it is another matter. Did your decree say that you could move your child anywhere you wanted?

if you have been there the requisite time to be considered a legal resident (in MS, it's six months to be a bona fide resident), then find a lawyer. all you have to do is petition the court to oversee the remainder of the precedings until your child is emancipated. a good lawyer will help you do this. CA court does not HAVE to allow a change in jurisdiction. they can require you to come back for any precedings, require you to appear in person. this is something the states do, and sometimes they fight over who has jurisdiction. get a jump on this before your ex files paperwork. if you can get the jurisdiction changed, he will have to come to GA for anything that goes through the court. as far as contacting San Bernardino, write them a letter. look up the address in the yellow pages, and write a letter to your case worker explaining what has happened and what you need them to do for you. CC a copy to yourself, sent through the mail. or request delivery certification. that way, if they don't get moving on it, they can't say the didn't get it. you will gets results compared to no one calling you back from your messages. for those who ask if your court papers say you can move, if the papers don't say you can't move, then you can. it has to specifically say you can't move for someone to use this against you.

what about filing a petition against him, you would have to do that in the county that YOU live...that is how it is in GA. Best thing to do is call a lawyer.
