My Xbox 360 wont play my Xbox games why?

I bought an X-360 when it first came out and the guy at the counter told me that I could play my old Xbox games on the X-360 but when I got home I popped in an old time fav. and I couldnt play it.. I cant remember the message it gave me but it just wouldnt play NONE of my Xbox games! is there something I need to buy for the 360 so it can read the games or what? please help -.-

check the list that everyone else gave you, but you can buy an OXM (official xbox magazine) with disc, the disc has the newest and all updates every month

There are two separate but related issues here.
1) Only some of the original xbox games can be played on the 360. The list is growing slowly. You can find the current list here.

2) You have to download updates to your xbox in order to play original xbox games. If your xbox is hooked up to the internet, it should do this automatically when you put the game in.

Here's the OFFICIAL list of all original xbox games that are playable with the 360:

They update this list every once in awhile.

Also, if your game is on the list, you'll need to be connected to xbox live to download the update that allows you play your original xbox game.

Not all Xbox games are compatible with the 360. xbox.com has a full list of compatible games.

go to xbox.com and go to support


it will give you a list of games you can play from the old xbox and at the bottom of the page it will show you where to get the download. after you click on the link it will explain it

I suggest that you clean the game disk or it's either something wrong with the x-box
