If you are a woman, do you absolutely HAVE to get your blood tested during the first five days of your period? Mine won't start until about a day or so before I'm supposed to get my first dose.
Also, do you have to get your blood tested in the same town as your dermatologist?

you have to get your blood tested prior to taking the accutane.
this is a liver function blood test because accutane is very hard on the liver. Then you must be tested every six months while taking the meds to monitor how the liver is dealing with this drug. It makes no sense not to be tested in a lab that your dermatologist deals with, or he won't get the results.
So, if you don't want to be tested while on your period, delay starting the accutane. But of course, be sure not to get pregnant while on the accutane because it WILL cause severe birth defects.
It has nothing to do with whether or not you are pregnant, obviously if you are having a period, you are not pregnant, so just ask the doctor if you can delay starting the drug until the period is passed.

They just want to make sure 100% without a dought that you are not pregnant. Accutane is known to cause birth defects, so you must not even possibly be pregnant or intend to get pregnant while on it. It does'nt matter where you get tested, as long as the prescribing doctor feels the lab is reliable.
