I am "happy" about pickin my dogs poo up when it fouls on the pavement as i believe it allows to keep the community a nice clean place, but it aggrovates me that horse riders dont pick there horses HUGE mounds of poo up that cover he road for metres.

A fine (althoug patheticaly enforced) is in place for dog fouling... should there not be one for horse fouling)

Regards Velvet:

I am not planning on rubbing horse poo in my eyes so either way i am not going to go blind.

My point is - If we have to pick dog poo up then riders should have to pick horse poo up and the same (although annoyinly not enforced) fine should apply to both dog and horse fouling. Whether it is good for "veggies" or not it is no good on the road.

They might need a shovel and a very big bag for that... probably the argument if there is one.

Im afraid there is no real argument here, as a dog AND horse owner think im in a good position to argue here..

The diffrence with pony poop and dog poop is..

Dogs..
1) its smaller and easy to pick up
2) it smell is offencive
3) it can be harmful in a non hyginic way
4) doesnt rot it just sits, drys up and goes mouldy

Horses..
1) Huge to big to just 'pick up' when your riding
2) Doesnt have an offencive smell to it
3) It is used as a fertaliser and is very good for the earth
4) does break down and dissapear within a few days
5) when out it is far safer on your horse than off
6) how can we hold the bag, horse AND pick up the poop!

I know if I was riding my horse Bolero out on the lanes there is no way he would let me fiddle round with a bag in one hand, clean poo with the other then get on and put it were?? I cant really ride one handed the whole way home!

Hope that solves it!!

This is a personal annoyance of mine.. Here in Ireland the horse is almost sacred!! There are 2 reasons why I dont like horse poo, one is that its messy and unsightly on the road and two is that it is most unpleasant when splattered under the wheel arches and turns your sponge green when cleaning the car.

In Canada a few years ago I noticed horse nappies on the old nags doing tours or Halifax NS. Why cant all horses be equiped like this.

More importantly why is there no white dog poo anymore???

I agree that dog poo is a far worse problem - there are no health issues associated with horse poo at all!!

Horses generally do it in the road also - if my horse did poo on a pavement I would clear it off!

Dog crap is full of dangerous stuff which can make you blind!
ever heard of toxoplasmosis?
Horse poo can be used to fertilize the soil where we grow food we eat, that is the difference, if they poo in the road whats that to you unless you walk your dog down the road, in which case you need to pay road tax too!
Horse poo?
what about cat poo!!

Horse Poo is made up of vegetation, and doesn't have as offensive stink as dog poo.Horse poo only has a strong smell when fresh, it soon dries up, We do clear up our horses poo, but I know some people don't just like irresponsible dog owners!
How many times have you said
'can you smell a smell?' lifted your foot and seen horse poo?
Its 99% dog poo!!

1. Horse poo doesn't smell.
2. We can't carry around a big poop scoop and plastic bag when we are riding.
3. You should be grateful , pick it up on put it on your garden it makes veggies grow extremely well. And that a plus you can grow your own vegetables and eat them with out putting aload of c . rappy chemicals in your body
4. If you grown your own veggies its better for the enviroment!

I see your point but its not very practical to have to dismount and shovel it up everytime. And where would we put our shovels and binbags full of poo? I don't think horse poo is anywhere near as offensive as dog poo. And what about cats? If we're going to have an amnesty on poo then what about the cats who go wherever they please right in your gardens?

Have you got a garden? If yes, grab a spade and put the horse poo on your garden - best thing ever for plants.

disgusting dog crap stinks and spreads and festers probably because dogs eat meat. horse muck is useful - you can use it in the garden then it is called manure. if you step in it it merely squashes and if it rains it gets washed away. i love it - wish i had some. if you see some on the road it usually indicates that you're probably in quite a nice area whereas dog crap is no respecter of class...it's everywhere.
