Is it possible to put an additional internal harddrive in a laptop just like you can have two IDE drives in a desktop. I am aware of external USB / Bluetooth /Firewire drives. They are just too slow.
Thanks,
Saleem

There are not usually spare drive bays in a laptop. The manufacturer may have an option to remove the optical drive and replace it with a hard drive.

The other option is a full dock, but that is not very portable.

Why do you claim that all external drives are too slow? The faster USB drives are probably going to have a faster sustained transfer rate higher than most laptop drives.

I would consider power for an external drive to be more of an issue.

Only if the Maker of the laptop themselves designed it so that you could put one in. That type of option is generally only available on some of the larger Desktop Replacement notebooks.

It's completely dependent on the notebook you have.

there are models of laptops with additional hard drive slots, or hard disks that will fit your modular CD/Rom / Floppy drive bay (assuming it is removable on your model)

There are also PCMCIA card sized hard drives - and memory drives - of sizes up to multiple gigabytes.

If performance is the goal - then replace your existing drive.
An older laptop would benefit substantially from a 7200 rpm drive as opposed to the 4800 rpm drive it would have shipped with.

nope!
loptops are made compact and designed to be mobile. so, putting an additional hard disk drive wont fit, besides there are no space to put another hard disk in your loptop. why not buy your self a hard disk drive that has bigger space than the one installed right now?
