If you are writing bad things about yourself, you most likely already ARE mentally ill.
Are you writing these bad things in a personal journal? If so, why would you write bad things about yourself? Do you not like yourself? Do you write things that are bad because you feel you are a bad person? Are any of these bad things actually true; or are they just how you feel? Do you know the difference?
That's the important thing. Do you know the difference between actual bad things and feeling bad about yourself? Feelings are not facts.
If you are writing bad things about yourself, you obviously do not like yourself very much.
If you write bad things about yourself, maybe you should consider going to a therapist. Then you could tell the therapist all the bad things you feel about yourself; and the 2 of you could work out why you feel that way. Then you could work on not feeling bad things about yourself & start feeling the good things about yourself.
Obviously, we all have good & bad points. But you should be aware of all the good about yourself, and work on improving the bad things about yourself. But first you need to learn if the bad things are, in reality, bad. If some of the bad things are not real, you need to change that thinking.
As I said eaelier, if you are writing bad things about yourself, you are already mentally ill. To what degree, I can't know. But I strongly feel you should talk to a professional.
Also, try writing down some good things to balance it out.
Good luck.

I don't think so, but the more you belive in the bad things you tell yourself, the more they affect you. Eventually, small problems, like 10 extra pounds can seem more like 50 and you hate yourself more then you should. Dont do it.

yes it is putting a building blocks together. its the same as thinking if it is thought enough you eventually start to believe it and when that starts it a slippery slope to depression. writing that down is a physical reinforcement and a manifestation of either a belief or a or a self conscious worry that can be built on, and is easier to build than knock down

It can make you suffer from depression. If the bad things involve your physical looks, it can cause you to have a body dysmorphic disorder (you think you are obese when actually you are too skinny), such as anorexia or bulimia.

A Frenchman named Moliere once said something to the effect of everyone should write poetry and not everyone should share it with other people.
I keep mine for me. It's a good outlet.

I was once told that it was possible to set out to upset yourself.
If you convince yourself that you are mentally ill, then you can trigger it.
I do believe you may need to speak to your doctor, as you may have a borderline personality disorder.
