Submersable is definate. But what brand is better, what one holds up the longest.

I have never noticed a significant difference between one brand and the next when it comes to heater life. Rena, Visi-Therm, Ebo Jagar... all those are good brands. If you want one that you can set to a temperature for your 29 gallon, I would suggest a Visi-Therm Stealth 150W Heater.

Every type of heater basically does the same thing. It heats your tank to the desired temperature. 150 watt would be the minimum size heater for your 29 gal. I have the Visi-Therm Stealth heater, and it works great. I would recommend that brand to you, but I heard that Theo and Rena are doing a pretty good job.
