it means she is paying for it herself ( or the company is ) -
could be for more than one reason -
she likes you
she thinks your down in the dumps
the owner of the resteruant/bar likes you

I don't know. I'm a server and I make sure I charge people for all items they order, because I can get a random check audit and get in trouble if I don't. Maybe they were trying to be nice and thought it would increase their tip, but that's a pretty bold assumption. I think it's funny how someone named Denise Richards has the audacity to call the waitress a tramp teehee!

I know a lot of servers that will axe the cost of a drink in hopes that you might give that money to them in a tip. Potential is there for the person to be interested, so you could try the old napkin number trick when you leave your tip to see if that is the case or not. Oftentimes, they will call if they truly are interested or not.
But usually, its all in an effort to snag an extra $2-3 in tip money.

ok so these people that say that the waitress is a desperate tramp *GLARE* I gave free drinks when I waitressed all the time and it was nothing to do with trampy-ness and i had a boyfriend and was pregnant so obviously not desperate! Anyways, If you talk to her alot, or if you tip well, she might do it cuz she likes waiting on you. Or she thinks your cute, or she's bored and likes to give away free stuff. she probably does it when your alone so she doesnt have to give EVERYONE free stuff.

The answer seems obvious, to me, she probably just grabbed the drink and never rang it in and is hoping that you will think that she/the company likes you and wanted to hook it up and hopefully you will tip her more, at least tip what the drink was originally worth, or she wants a fiver.....

Do you mean you offered to buy her a drink or she wouldn't let you pay for your own? More info please. If she said no to your buying her one maybe she's not interested in you,has a boyfriend, or doesn't drink. If she gave a free drink to you then she may have liked you.

Sometimes people are just nice. Enjoy the drink. Ask her out if you want to.

If you're there for a while, she may figure it'll improve her tip if she "buys" you one round. It's good business to take care of customers.
Or she actually likes you.

If it was a soda, then it means that it is not even worth her time to ring you up.
