A show that I really loved was The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, it has spectacular music and a fun kid like atmosphere about it. Mary Poppins or The Lion King would also be very family friendly shows. Hairspray is a fun show, but I'm not sure a seven-year-old would love it as much though. Stay away from Avenue Q and Spring Awakening, good shows, but inappropriate for a little girl. If you want some more info on these awesome musicals you can go to...
http://ibdb.com/ they will tell you LOADS about them.

I also recommend the Lion King and Mary Poppins, however if you plan on going to NYC around the beginning of november, Disney is opening a new musical based on The Little Mermaid. I bet your granddaughter would adore that!
Unfortunately, Beauty and the Beast closed a while ago, but I thi nk The Lion King would be your best bet if you can't go to The Little Mermaid.

I recommend you go see: Mary Poppins, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid (coming soon). I personally love Wicked, but I am not sure she is old enough. There are moments that can seem scary to some children, and she might not be able to understand it all that well, but I do recommend just you and your wife see Wicked :) Whatever show you choose, I hope you enjoy it.

All of the Disney shows are great except Tarzan. She could go to see the Lion King (wonderful production and by far one of the best ones on Broadway right now), Beauty and the Beast (so long as they have a pyrotechnician on site this is a great show, but no lion king) or Aieda (I think that is how you spell it but it is pronounced "I eat uh") was a great show and something that is not out on video so she will have nothing to compair it too. All of them are great and child friendly. If I had to pick one for you I would say see the Lion King. I have seen all of these shows and many more and as far as child friendly and worth the money... these are your best bets. Good luck.

I recommend The Lion King or Mary Poppins. Both were wonderful musicals, and age appropriate.

If she likes The Wizard of Oz, she will love Wicked. Personally I found Lion King to be boring, but many other people loved it so she might love it too. There's also Little Mermaid and Mary Poppins.
Have fun!
