I set it to about 80 last night, and then i went to check on the tank and my tank was 85! Someone I know has a heater that turns on for a certin temperture and then when that temp. is reached, it shuts off. Should I consider that type of heater? Because mine never shuts off unless I put it at a really low temp.

It may be malfunctioning or your home is quite warm. If you keep your house below 85F and the tank is still that warm, then it would be the heater. Best to replace it if that is the case.

When you have a tiny body very little thing makes a difference. What you need is a new unit this one is breaking down and an accident could kill your fish. Get the same type of hetare asd the person you know it's better to heat your tank to your standards not the manufacturers.
Hope I could help!

It's time to get a new one.
Unless you live in a hot place where your night time temperature is 85F+, (I hope not), your heater has a probem.
As mentioned, if allowed to go unchecked, this problem could deteriorate rapidly and your heater could easily kill all of your fish as quickly as overnight.
You don't want to wake up in the morning to fish soup!
Time to get the best one you can afford, and soon.

My heater is the type where it shuts off when it reaches the said temperature. I would invest in one if I were you, as too high or low of temperatures can stress or even kill the fish.

It the fish are comfortable jointly with a marine community you're able to seem for some thing distinctive yet while is nearly an person-friendly freshwater setup i'd say i'd easily attempt it truly than going out and spending money on yet another one.
