Salem's Lot" by Stephen king. Also, I am a "Thriller" book fanatic and have read a huge percentage thats out there, so here are some excellent choices (I was going to say "page turner" until I heard the joke "why do people say this book is a real page turner--I know how books work!) Jeffery Deaver, Dennis Lehane, David Morrell and Lee Child, in my opinion they are the best thriller writers in the business!! I am a avid reader in this genre and have read Coben, King, Koontz, F. Paul Wilson, Connelly, and many others but none can touch these authors I've listed! The Deaver book I've just finished reading now is "The Sleeping Doll"--a brand new release and has literally keeped me up at nights!! I'm quite sure you'll love his other thrillers as well, such as "The Bone Collector", "A Maiden's Grave", "The Coffin Dancer", "Praying For Rain", "Cold Moon", "The Twelveth Card", "The Vanished Man", "Devil's Tear Drop" et el. For Lehane, start with "A Drink Before War" (don't let the title fool you) then "Darkness Take My Hand", "Sacred", "Gone, Baby Gone", "Prayers For Rain", "Shutter Island" and "Mystic River." For Lee Child, you can start with his first and move forward, but it's Ok if you don't. Some personal favs are: "One Shot", "Trip Wire", "Hard Luck and Trouble"--a new release, "The Persuader"-my personal fav, "The Hard Way", but they are all page turners! Also, last but definately not least is David Morrell. All his books are good, but I especially enjoy his last two releases "Creepers" and "Scavenger" which are guaranteed page-turners. Just finished my first Ed Mcbain book "Fiddlers" and it was both engaging and hilarious! Hope this helps, enjoy, Greg

Vampires in fiction:

Count Orlock, a well-known example of vampire fiction, from the 1922 film Nosferatu.Main articles: Vampire fiction and Vampire films
Lord Byron introduced the vampire theme to Western literature in his epic poem The Giaour (1813), but it was his personal physician John Polidori who authored the first "true" vampire story called "The Vampyre". The vampire of the story, Lord Ruthven, the first of our now familiar romantic vampires, is partly based on Byron. The "ghost story competition" that spawned this piece was the same one that motivated Mary Shelley to write her archetypal monster novel Frankenstein.

Other examples of early vampire stories are Samuel Taylor Coleridge's unfinished poem Christabel and Sheridan Le Fanu's lesbian vampire story, Carmilla.

Bram Stoker's Dracula has been the definitive version of the vampire in popular fiction for the last century. Its portrayal of vampirism as a disease (contagious demonic possession), with its undertones of sex, blood and death, struck a chord in a Victorian Europe where tuberculosis and syphilis were common. Stoker's writings are also adapted in many later works. In modern popular culture, vampires are featured in many popular novels and book series by authors such as Anne Rice and Christopher Moore.

I am not a vampire fan for the most part. But I read Historian about a year ago and it's more of an historical take on the man behind the myth. I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's older - I think it came out last summer - but you shouldn't have a problem finding it.

I have not read any of Amelia Atwater Rhodes books, so I dont know her style. I have read the Ann Rice books, and they are amazing (dont refer to the movies as they do her no justice). When it comes to vampires, creating their world and history, she is amazing. Its a great story line to as well. Memnoch the Devil was my personal favorite.

There is a trilogy of vampire books by Jeanne Kalogridis called "The Diaries of the Family Dracul". The book titles are "Lord of the Vampires", Covenant with the Vampire" and "Children of the Vampire". They're excellent books.

I like Anne Rice books, Maggie Shayne, Susan Sizemore, Sherrlyn Kenyon but the good guy just happen to have fangs while the enemys drink blood/eat souls. Thats all I can think of. I like vampire books were the vamps turn out to be good guys fighting evil. I find them more exciting.
