Well, if you accept the premise that the reason for the Iraq war was solely to get our hands on their oil, then I'd say it's been a roaring success.

But you are forgetting about all the OTHER reasons for the war: to bolster the military industrial complex, and to put billions of dollars into the pockets of Halliburton executives. In which case, it's STILL been a roaring success.

If you accept the Administration-provided premise that the war was to destroy Saddam's mythical WMDs, or to bring liberty and democracy to the Iraqi people, or to create a stable pro-American government in the middle of the Middle East, then I'd have to say it's been a total failure.

You are probably to young to remember Vietnam and the chaos of 1975. My prediction is, it will be worse in Iraq, unless we allow the military to fight the war and not a bunch of bureaucrats. The way it looks today, with the leader of Iraq traveling to Iran and Syria and kissing you know what, he is repaying America with a slap in the face. When he was criticized for his questionable loyalties, his answer was he could find friends elsewhere. I hope we will stop helping this baboon.

I think the oil and the bases were absolutely the unstated goals. In that respect it has been a success. But the publically stated goal of 'bringing democracy to the middle east', it has been a huge failure.

Absolutely.

By the time the oil pumps in Saudi Arabia dry up, Iraq should be in full production and selling in US petrodollars instead of Euros.

Not to mention, that the oil fields are free for exploitation by the major oil companies and not hindered by nationalism.

Sure... it's a rousing success... but just WHAT is the life of each of the 3800 soldiers worth to you in the form of barrels of oil?

NO... the was is NOT a success because it has left the region worse off than when we started... it is a disaster and anyone with a brain can see that.

The Iraq war was a booming success. The WAR lasted less than two months. The OCCUPATION has been less of a success largely due to the failure of Iraqis. The press will never diferentiate between the WAR and the OCCUPATION but the rest of us should.

Now that you put it that way, it HAS been a success, so far.

Remains to be seen how long the Iraqis stay at each others' throats rather than at ours, but that's what agents provocateurs are for, right?

Right.

Think we ought to tell the right wing that "permanant" isn't as permanent as they think?

Nah--let it be a surprise! :)

Support our troops--bring them home
