I ask this because I am a bit confused about how Web Servers are managed and I would like to buy my own so that I can be able to host my own websites!!! Also if I could own one, would I also be able to own my own domain names? THANKS

Yes, anyone with enough money and expertise (or even more money) can buy a web server for their own personal use. And you can own your own domain names even without a web server (though you'll need at least a web host account to be able to properly use the domain name).

If you want to just try out a web server, you can try turning your own computer into a web server. Here's a link to an easy and free package that well let you do so

If you want to actually host your own websites that will be accessed by other people, you may want to actually buy one. You can either buy a web hosting account which will get you the ability to host websites but won't let you access the server itself.
Or you can get what is known as a Virtual Private Server (VPS) which is like your own private web server but it has less power and is cheaper.
If you really want to go all out then you can get your own fully functional private web server, called a Dedicated Server (They come in Unmanaged and Managed variants, If you don't know what your doing you might want to try getting a Managed one)

Yes, and you're computer right now can serve as a server. When you buy full-on web servers they come with a lot of software and hardware that makes it easier and more robust, but you don't actually need one.

There are actually a lot of good hosting sites that will do the work for you. You pay them something like $10 a month and upload the html code and they will deal with the storage, databasing, and uptime. Domain names come as part of this deal. Search for Yahoo! webhosting, I've run a site through there before.

Unless you are building a site and expect a couple thousand hits per hour, any pc ( even real old ones ) and the right software can be used for a web server.

If all you plan on doing is simple html stuff, have a high speed internet connection and already have a Windows PC, you could install Apache for Windows and place your html in the appropriate directory.

If you are planing more intricate database stuff, I would recommend reading up on Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP ( referred to as L.A.M.P )

Also, if you have a small home network setup ( where you are sharing the same internet connection to more then one pc ) you will have to set a static IP addr to the PC and config your router to forward port 80 to said IP Addr ( Check your routers manual on how to do that ).

You buy software that turns your computer into a server.

just run it off your home computer.
easiest way would be to install wamp, then log into your router and set your computer's ip as the DMZ.
then type in your ip addy and voila!
