I know that there are a lot of people using this forum who have doubts about the McCanns and Gerry in particular, but I think the overall opinion in the UK leans more towards being sympathetic towards them. I don't think the majority of people believe that they harmed Maddie and the outrage at the fact of them leaving their 3 babies alone and unprotected isn't voiced because people feel sorry for them because of their great loss? What do all you folks think? I don't like Gerry at all. I find him cold and arrogant. I find it hard to believe that a loving father could start his blog up within days of Maddie's disappearance writing about mundane activities such as going jogging and having a haircut.

I think the general reaction to their return will be sympathetic and welcoming. I also believe they will be treated like royalty and will be protected now that they are in the spotlight. I think they will remain in the spotlight for years to come.
I too don't believe they harmed Maddy but something in this case is odd and I just don't know what...........
I found his speaking up in Edinburgh at the weekend chilling as he was smiling all the time. Not once did he look unhappy or down. He seemed full of his own self-importance. I think Kate is very much controlled by him.
I don;t think they will face any criminal charges either for leaving those 3 kids alone despite the fact that they did very wrong.
I know they say time is a big healer but i would still be in peaces if my child was missing and possibly feared dead.
they have never shown true remorse or grief or said they did wrong.
That little boy shot in Liverpool Friday was terrible and you can see the true grief on both his parents faces.
Where was or is the grief on the McCanns faces?

Only thing i can think of is that maybe they know Maddy is alive???? As surely parents that have lost a daughter can't be that cool can they?

The tide is turning now particularly for Gerry. He is a cold hearted control freak and until recently, he has managed to stop journalists asking awkward questions by bullying and manipulating and also taking advantage of the fact that people feel sorry for them. However, I feel that the tide is turning now, journalists are beginning to probe him further and he doesn't like it one little bit - but they continue to ask those questions and will not let Gerry side line them. In fact, the other day he stormed out of an interview because a journalist asked him a question he didn't like.

I really hope that they do not return to the UK. They committed a crime in Portugal and should face their punishment in that country. Unlike the British, Portugal actually take child neglect quite seriously so they should face a harsher sentence. I read that a Greek woman was jailed for 16 years in Portugal for leaving her children so I am pinning my hopes something similar will be meated out to these two. Gerry is the most cold hearted, self centered, narcissistic, manipulative and controlling man I have seem for some time. His mute wife is not far behind him.

I think it will be interesting to see the response they get. They bang on about the support they have but I have yet to meet anyone who has much support for them now. They did in the beginning before all the facts about them leaving the kids alone came out. How could Kate go back to being a GP and telling you how to look after your kids when she....... and would you want to have anything to do with him considering he did the same thing. I think the reason they have delayed coming back for as long as they could is that they are worried to death about a social services investigation. Being doctors they will know how these departments work. But then you do something that bloody stupid you have to take the consequences. I would just like a little more humility from them. I just feel so terribly sad that Maddie had such selfish parents and hope that she is not suffering in any way.

The British public will probably react as the media tells them, if the front page of the Sun turns against the McCanns they wont know what hit them.

Sam J - why dont you ask Team McCann if you can voluntarily count the fund to check it adds up to the figure on the website, you are good at counting.

When the return to the UK it will be as either:
- Maddy is found
- It is proved that Maddy is dead

In any case I think that the press will turn, especally over the fund.

I am sure, that while there is support for them there are a lot of reporters who would like to let rip over them on a number of issues.

REMEMBER at the moment if the press says anything against them they will be seen a bullying a family who have lost their kid.

Most people I have asked about this topic agree that they have little or no sympathy for the Mccanns and that they were grossly negligent. (Notwithstanding the sorrow for Madeleine)
I think that Gerry and Kate are in their own little bubble either through guilt or coping mechanism and may be surprised that the general concensus of opinion is against them.
Look at Rhys' parents for real grief.

I think most people feel that they should be punished in some way for leaving the children alone. Although if they had ever shown by word or deed that they feel in any way to blame I think public sympathy might return to them.

I agree with you, I think they are both very cold people, I don't feel sorry for them, I feel sorry for Madeleine, and sorry for the twins, they must be very confused as to what is going on, first their sister is gone, then they are left for hours on end in the creche, they are only babies, bless them.
