We've smashed their country, we've taken the basics of running water and energy. We have thrown their borders open to every Islamic nut in the Middle East. Then we get impatient because they aren't putting together the type of government we think they should have. So how long before the Shiite,Sunnis and Kurds find us the common enemy?

If the US does not act quickly to help at least rebuild vital infrastructure, whatever little patience Iraqi citizens have left will run dry. Soon, they'll eventually become more aligned with the insurgency solely out of spite for the American occupation that has accomplished little in the way of rebuilding. There is no way for the US alone to reconcile political and cultural tensions; this is where the aid of the UN needs to come into play. There is no reason for them to just sit back and not get involved to bridge at the very least the political gaps amongst the numerous factions. Only when political reconciliation takes hold can the physical rebuilding advance. This is where Iraqis themselves must also help.

If there is no significant change in the way things are taking place, it'll be a matter of a few years or less before ordinary Iraqis become disinterested with the pro-American regime in place and thus, lead to a coup that would be damaging to US interests.

if certain people would keep their traps shut... calling for the maliki's removal... but, with that being said, i think that the leaders of Iraq know they are in much better shape with us there than not being there. if we packed up and left right now, that country would be the envy of Hell.
"We've smashed their country, we've taken the basics of running water and energy. We have thrown their borders open to every Islamic nut in the Middle East." ummm, what? the basics you speak of are NOT taken. if anything, it's more widespread than it was before. as far as the borders are concerned.. the local paper reports that there are about 800 detainees less than 11 years old.. that's more than 8 times what it was not to long ago. the article states that terrorist organizations, especially al-qaeda, are recruiting younger and younger because they are having trouble finding older recruits due to the border NOT being a porous as you say. this is critical information regarding the surge and the war in general. we are making progress. to answer your question.... it's not gonna happen.
