The ultrasound tech just said I am 8 weeks pregnant.
Does that mean that I have just finished 7 weeks, and am in my 8th week of pregnancy, or does it mean I have completed 8 weeks?

I am realllly confused, because my last period was 6/29, I normally have 31 day cycles, and my luteal phase is usually only 10 days max.

From charting, and ov tests, I ovulated most likely on cd18. I only had intercourse during the 4 days before I ovulated. I got a pos hpt at 11dpo.

According to my ovulation date, I should be only about 7 weeks pregnant. My baby is measuring 1/2 inch, which is 8 weeks. Is it possible that the baby grew FASTER, because I didn't ovulate 7 days earlier, nor did I have sex that far back.

Can the gender of a baby make a difference in growth at that early stage? I just don't get it.

Can you understand my question? Sorry for the confusion.

And, yes, I know that it probably doesn't matter, but I am just wondering.

Yes it means that you are starting your 8th week. If you are correct on all your facts that you stated above, the tech was able to correctly give you the 8 week answer.

Yes boys grow faster than girls do in the womb. My sister had 4 kids, 3 girls and 1 boy, the boy was first and she looked big at 4 months. At 4 months with her girls, she looked small.

Her boy wound up being 8 pounds, and her girls 6.1, 6.4 and 5 pounds.

It does matter...you're going to be a mommy, and you'll be inquisitive about tons of facts later on. Enjoy your pregnancy it's a wonderful time in your life. I loved every aspect of pregnancy, just knowing you have a little human being growing inside of you.

Congratulations.

She meant that you have completed 8 weeks if she said that you are 8 weeks pregnant. An ultrasound is not accurate down to the day. And babies grow at different rates, so yes it's possible that your baby grew a bit faster.

The ultrasound techs can be slightly off sometimes. If you have calculated it THAT MUCH and you think you are in you 7th week . . but your doc says 8th. Your probably in 7th. Maybe next time ask more specific questions on exactly how THEY calculated. I believed I was 9 weeks and they told me only 7. . but they often change the dates later on. In your case its only a 7 day difference . . or maybe less . .maybe about 3 or 4. I'd relax. . and just see if they happen to change your due date later on. Plus due dates are never exact anyways.

Yes it is possible that baby is measuring bigger. My friend is prego with a baby girl and she knows the exact date she concieved and all that but the doctors say she is at a different date because of how the baby measures. The fact is, it is not an exact science and if you feel pretty confident that you are only 7 weeks, I'd go with your own gut.
Congrats.

They date pregnancy from the first day of your last period. Not when you concieved or your ovulation date. This probably means that you are in your eighth week of pregnancy. One day on either side isn't going to matter as babies routinely come up to two weeks ealier or later than their due date.
Congratulations and good luck.

They doctor only care about your last period and they calculate it from there, it doesn't matter how long is your cycle. This is only prediction date not very accurate that is why woman pass their due date or else...
However to make it easier for you:
29July was Friday (day 1) so next Friday is week1
so each Friday is a week.
now you are 8 weeks and 3 days
It is simple
i hope you understand this method and good luck sweetie

Wow, I am in the same situation.
I know when I ovulated and I know when we conceived. At the doc's they told me the baby looks 8 weeks, and I told them that means I had my period a week before my actual date. So dont worry, the first pregnancy was the same and I gave birth exactly a week before my due date.

It generally means you are 8 wks along, at the end of 7 wks. Ultrasound at 8 wks is generally very accurate. Most Doctors will go take US dating to calculated dating.

i believe they only way they can tell how far along you are is by the measurements.

as far as the actual conception date, you're probably the only one that actually knows that.
