Many things considered awful today were politically correct in recent history... Some things today are so!
Biological differences between men and women are mostly out now! Yet, viewing men as always more violent than women is OK!
A guy getting slapped by a girl is fine, but the contrary seams not to be acceptable...! Both are violent acts of the same scale! Why are feminists not righting that wrong?
These are the example that ran my mind now... There are example in many other field besides gender. Use your own or whatever! Is politically correctness good or bad for society? can it hide great evils behind current social acceptance or falsehood.

A standing of good manners as excuse for blatantly lying or making false assumptions because it is generally accepted is just more foul play! Excuses for those in the benefitting side! As for the example, women have nails and can blind someone with a slap, which is far wost than a mildly darker temporary mark!!! It is a fact that women are as violent as men in general! Anything different than that is a false assumption based in socially accepted views. Cawardry and anger have no gender! Who raises boys to feel like warriors so they ca stay at home during war? Not their fathers alone! Women should accept they are as fickle as anyother faction/division of society would be!

What you call political correctness I call good manners. I don't think anything about good manners is foul.

Political correctness does not require that biological differences between men and women be ignored, but good manners require us not to judge a person's abilities and motives based on their sex. It is ok to view men as more violent than women, on average, because they are. But it is not OK to look at a man and a woman and conclude the man is more violent.

It is not ok for anyone to slap another (man-woman-parent-child-sibling). It is bad manners, and it is illegal constituting a battery. But as men are generally more powerful physically than women, it is perfectly reasonable to see the potential greater threat of a man slapping a woman as opposed to a woman slapping a man.

The only real problem in 'Political Correctness' is that it sometime results in one-way good manners. A well mannered person does not continue with utterances or behavior that others find offensive, especially when informed that it does. Likewise, a well mannered person does not take offense when no offense was intended. The only time political correctness runs amok is when an un-offended party decries an unintended offense on behalf of someone else.

But these occasional overreaching attempts at civility and good manners are hardly bad for society. It is merely something to roll our eyes at while we strive to be better to one another.

Political correctness is nothing more then another attempt by some select group to control the masses. Its meant to soften the hard side of life and things in general. To make everyone the same. Sadly to many people have taken it to heart and have become obsessed with being politically correct. Forcing their ideas on others and causing grief for those that refuse or simply won't fall in step. Better to stand as and individual and be despised by a few then become just another sheep in the flock. Of weak minded people looking for acceptance at the price of individuality.

I agree with you completely. There are many many things that are either double standards or just plain hypocritical with "political correctness."

Actually, I agree with RW on this. I think he said it best.
