Its not just the media. There's a lot of misunderstanding and biasness against the religion. His father ran for President in '68 and it was a lot worse then than it is now. I think the biasness against mormons has gotten better, but there's still a lot to overcome. All we Mormons can do is not be bothered by it, and do what we can to show people that Mormons are good people, and not batty.

Sure it should, if he will be influenced by those beliefs while deciding what bills to sign, what wars to support, what measures to encourage.
I can't understand why people think we should ignore religion in our political candidates---and it's usually the people most critical of the "PC" world we live in. I'm sorry, I disagree with Mormonism on almost every basic ideal, so the idea of having a President that personally believes them is unpalatable.
If you honestly think that in deciding to sign an abortion-rights bill, or a gay marriage amendment, a religious President will ignore his personal beliefs, you're insane. As I support both pro-choice rights and gay marriage, I could not ethically vote for such a man. Not hatin' on the religion, it's just that you can't take the religion out of a believer, and I believe it should be out of politics, so there you go.

It's basically religious prejudice. Romney is in a bad spot with the atheists and agnostics because he believes in God and he's in a bad spot with Christians because most of the Christian denominations regard Mormonism as a cult. The atheists and agnostics believe he'll try to ram his religion down the throats of the American people, and the Christians believe he may try to push the Mormon agenda to the detriment of Christianity. It's a lose-lose for him.

The big reason people care is because there has been a long history of protostents , cathlocs , christians , and jews in executive office... And religion is verry important when it comes to political office , especially executive. And mormons have a long history of multiple wives , child wives. But not all mormons do though.

Because the news media concentrates on it. People will always find something about every candidate that will be an issue. I find it interesting when an already elected official runs for president, that all types of things are "found out" about them. Why wasn't it found in local or state elections?

Romney served in France for 30 months as an LDS missionary.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitt_Romney#Early_life_and_education
Most missionaries only serve for 24 months.
Some people are annoyed when missionaries ring their doorbell.
The church even counseled missionaries leaving for Europe not to marry all the women they converted, but to bring back some of the ladies for the leaders.
"Brethren, I want you to understand that it is not to be as it has been heretofore. The brother missionaries have been in the habit of picking out the prettiest women for themselves before they get here, and bringing on the ugly ones for us; hereafter you have to bring them all here before taking any of them, and let us all have a fair shake."
- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, The Lion of the Lord, New York, 1969, pp.129-30.

If you lived in a state where the mormans are in control of everything you wouldn't have to ask that question. Ignorance? I have to live with the mormon situation. I am not ignorant about how the "church" runs everything. If it is so totally disgusting state wide, how do you think it would be nation wide?

because he is a good challenge on the Republican side and they need to personally bash him. That's what they do when they can't argue logically, which is almost all the time. Democrat Harry Reed is also Mormon. You don't hear the Dems -- those open minded bastion of tolerance group -- complaining about him, do you? If it smells like a hypocritical, self serving, personal bash, then it probably is. what does it smell like to you?

People had the same reservations about Kennedy being a Catholic. I think people care because they think his religion will influence his policies.

It does color the way He is seen. I know it shouldn't matter but how can you not take all of the info you have & not use that to base an opinion?
