i think your asking if you get a cat. if you don't have and epirdural? if thats the question then no the only reason you get one with an epirdural is because you can't get up and go to the bathroom or feel your bladder getting full and as for the enima?? i've delivered 4 children 3 with epirdural and 1 without and never had an enima. i don't think it is common practice anymore but i guess it depends on the doctor. my sugg. (cause i've delivered both ways) go for the epidural and the catheder ( they put it in after the epidural so you don't even feel it) you actually enjoy the labor process a whole lot more!!!! good luck!!!!

I have NEVER had an epidural and I have had 4 babies. You do not have to have an enima or catheder if you're not using anesthetic.
The whole thing is, when the baby is born, the pain is gone - labor is over, no contractions. It was not unbearable having a natural labor. I made the choice that I didn't want any unnecessary medical interventions. (I was also never given an episiotomy, nor did I need stitches.) It's one thing if something is wrong and warrants a c-section, but if you don't have to have an epidural, don't do it.
There can be complications from having epidurals (which no one ever talks about because it is rare, but it still happens). If there is a need during the delivery for you to push the baby out faster (complications with the cord or whatever - heart rate is dropping, etc...) and you have an epidural, you can't be very effective. I chose natural birth for each of my kids because it was the safest decision for them and for me. Educate yourself - read everything you can. You should also know, you are allowed to refuse anything when you're at the hospital, you are the boss of your child's birth and it's your body. They need to be respectful of your concerns - write a birth plan and discuss it with your dr - make sure they agree to it before you have the baby.
I had 3 babies with midwives and 1 in the hospital with drs. My drs were as good as the midwives - the only thing I HAD TO HAVE was the IV (I had requested not to, but there was nothing to do - hospital rules) - my baby didn't have any medication in her eyes, for example (You can waive that) and never left my side. I went in with her when they weighed her, gave her the bath, did all the testing - I was right there). When I had the monitor on, I was allowed to get up and walk around and could adjust it if it wasn't comfortable. I didn't fight having that on, but during contractions, they let me adjust it if it was annoying. No one has ever suggested giving me an enima or a catheder (no one I know has ever had to have one either) - so I wouldn't worry about it. Talk to your dr. This would be really backwards thinking. It's stuff they used to do in the 60's and 70's . People have progessed a lot - birth is not an illness and you shouldn't expect to be treated like you need all this stuff. How uncomfortable! EEK! Tell them No Thanks!
Best Wishes!

Um with mine they made my fiance (now husband) depart the room. And I needed to hug a nurse that I did not recognise for relief. I wasn't too completely satisfied approximately it. But oh good. Anyways via that factor I was once in SOO so much to quite think them hanging the epidural in.But after supply which was once at 12:24 they mentioned they might be in in a while to take away the catheter from my again. Well they did not come till approximately 6 within the morning. It was once tremendously uncomfortable. And after they took it out it harm worse, or I spotted the affliction extra when you consider that I wasnt in hard work anymore =D I believe the huge tape that's for your again is what harm while getting it eliminated. Overall it was once best although. I obtained my epidural at 6 cm's I think, and forty five mins after that (which that entire time I was once capable to nap) I was once nine a million/two and just about in a position to supply. I don't forget my hubby calling my mothers and fathers, who had simply left for McDonalds, to hurry again otherwise they have been going to overlook supply! It gave the impression find it irresistible helped velocity alongside my hard work, however it'll have simply been twist of fate!

I did not have an epidural and did not have an enima or catheater. I believe it is your choice, even though I was never asked if I wanted one.

Epidural is only by request, and yes you will still have to have a cath and enima. Doctors want you totally pee and poop free (sorry there was no other way to say that - although I did sugar coat it).

However I would still go for the epidural, it will save you the extra bad pain. Modern medicine is great, no need to feel that baby coming through if you don't have to.

Good luck.

I never received an enima with my epidural, my ob told me that they do not do those anymore. However I did have to have a cathedar. You do not have to have an epidural, they are by choice only.

If you have an epidural you do not have to have an enema. You will get a catherter though. An epidural is by choice. They don't give enema's anymore. If you do accidentally poop on the table...the nurse whicks it away. You wouldn't even know if you did or not.

Honestly, either way, the catheter isn't any big deal. I was soooo worried about getting it, but I felt nothing.

I didn't have an enema, because I had to stop eating the night before my cesarean. The pooping thing after the cesarean was a major cause of anxiety for me though. I hated being out of control of my body, and never got used to it. (That, and passing gas 24/7 for a few days afterwards.)

I never had the epidural with any of my children. I think going natural is a good thing unless the labour is long or there is complactions with the delievery. Good luck.
