Or, perhaps he is just totally incapacitated. Maybe he is in a perisitent, vegetative state or a coma.

In any case, the Cuban government seems to be sending the message that Castro is alive, and that while reecovering froma severe phyical illness he is intellectually just fine.

They also continue to say that his recovery is going well.

So why is there no real evidence that he is alive? Why is he never seen in public?

Has there even been a photo that proves he is alive? Such as one where he is holding a recent newspaper in his hand?

Nah. When he's dead, it'll be a huge deal with a national funeral procession. I'm sure Castro is still alive, but I'm equally sure he is on the decline. I think they've made up the bit about his recovery going well, so they won't have civil war on their hands until he actually kicks the bucket.

Its possible Cuba being a communist state, would announce his demise when his heir has obliterated all the opposition candidates. If I recall correctly, Castro appointed one of his relatives as the No. 2 man. So, its not surprising at all. Usually they will announce his health and how well he's recoverring, more and more propoganda with patriotic overtures etc. is a sure sign of his passing.
