Do you blame rap music for escalated crime and violence in the hip-hop community?

Do you blame guns or idiots/criminals with guns for gun violence?

Why or why not?

I think religion is dangerous when leaders of the religion take it out of context and want to control the populous by religions laws and commandments, in the United States.

We have seen how this affects the people who live in countries where religious law is the law of the land.
In the U.S. everyone and anyone can choose to follow any and all religion or none at all.
We do take some of our laws from some of the tenets of religion, although I do think you can argue that you don't have to be 'religious' to be moral or ethical.
There is a difference between religion and fanaticism. Moderation is the key.

As to rap music or shock rock and/or violent music, there is no doubt that being inundated on a regular basis with this kind of music will affect people. The government has used mood influencing music as a tactical maneuver in situations trying to break people. i.e. the Waco Koresch debacle.
As much as I hate government regulation and censorship it is clear that parents by and large aren't doing their jobs and parenting. Of course there are many that are but there are many that aren't.
So what's to be done?
Sacrifice today's youth for freedom of expression? It's a difficult not easily answered situation. Perhaps we should have a referendum in the next election for the populous to determine the availability of violent music to anyone under the age of 18.

As far as the gun situation, I think we should leave things as they are and when someone does something criminal arrest them and try them. Criminals will always have access to guns if they want them.

It's interesting how all three of these subjects can be interwoven. It all boils down to personal responsibility. But what do you do about the people who are having children who lack personal responsibility and will raise the kids without morality and ethics?
We need a National discussion about it.

Excellent question, by the way!

No, no and no.

Religion is only a tool to wield power. It is the hunger for power (and its subsequent exploitation of religion) that causes the worlds divisions and woes. There is no fix for this....there will never be "world peace."

Rap music is a reflection of what is going on in their community. There was crime and violence before rap music. The cause of crime and violence in ANY community is because of being poor.

brb...

As for gun violence - you have to blame the user, not the gun. People who commit gun crimes are going to commit crimes whether they have a gun or not. The gun is just convenient because it wields so much power.

1) I do not blame religion. I blame poverty and lack of opportunity -vs- wealth and dearth of opportunity. Religion can be an acid on those wounds or it can be a healer.
2) Absolutely not. I blame our leaders for that. Our youngsters see a lot of real violence perpetrated by our leaders through generation after generation of war. It is no wonder a lot of them grow up thinking violence is a legitimate way to solve problems. To say some rappers or rockers have more influence on kids than Presidents is laughable.
3) I don’t blame guns for violence. I blame the people who commit the crimes. That said, I see no reason why human-killing weapons should be readily available. There is a big difference between hunting and homicide.

Religion breeds ignorance, gives some an inflated sense of self-entitlement and gives people a convenient source to point to justify their evil deeds. Christians and Muslims foul treatment of Jews and homosexuals is an excellent example of this practice. Rap simply glorifies those behaviors. And it's certainly not the gun-less causing the gun violence.

I don't blame religion because if there were no religion.. people would just find a different reason.

rap music/escalated crime is like the chicken and the egg question.. Music is a reflection of what is already happening and people are feeling.. but it also propagates more.

The idiot criminal is the one committing the crime.. but it's not like the gun doesn't help.
