I can't believe people are willing to allow government to take over our private sector health-care..the best in the world. Yes we have people who have no insurance yet we have more people insured at ANY time in out history, in 1950 only 22% of people had insurance, in 1965 it was 35%, in 1975 it was 41%, today it's over 79% of people with insurance. Some seem to be so willing to allow our bankrupt federal government who can't even deliever the mail correctly run our health-care...a whopping 1/7th of the economy. Yes there are many that don't have insurance, children that need it that fall between the cracks....to rich to get free insurance and too poor to buy it...we are closing that gap...but if that's your argument...can we list lot's of other things the poor dont have, food, clothing, car insurance...the list is endless....why throw the baby out with the bath water...MR. GOVERNMENT my Health-Care is NONE of your business........KEEP-OUT!!
do you agree

Now, we have to really step back here and look at this.
The reason WHY people like me want the government to take over health care is exactly the reasons you seem to put down in your post.
You are not being honest about closing any gaps, either. The gap between the rich and poor is getting further apart, not closer together.
Because of people like you, those who worship at the Church of the Almighty Market, the US Government tells everyone that capitalism is the chosen form of economic practice and that's the way it is.
However, somewhere along the line, our system of government has failed an awful lot of people. You know it, and I know it.
When we go forward, the only thing I care about is the health of the people. Have we done everything we can to insure that everyone can go see a doctor when they are sick?
Until that day, forget it. I'm not even going to listen to some social conservative spouting off about the Government about anything at all...anything.
Sure, they can't run the mail system correctly...because they have to compete with private enterprise to do the same job and private enterprise will always have the advantage because they are not heavily scrutinized and fudges a whole lot of things the government could never get away with.
But at least a government run health care system insures that the people of this nation will be healthy, it will cost what it costs and the costs can then be held firm. The cost of health care in the US and around the world is completely out of control, and the reason is simple: in it's current mode of operation, it's an insurance scam supported by government stooges and lobbyist scum that keep it propped up nice and high cost-wise so they can run crying and finger-pointing about government interference...all the way to the bank.

Government FUNDED Healthcare works in Australia, Belgum, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Venezuela where no Private/For Profit INSURANCE companies can deny you coverage-it is a Human Right! Yes Taxes are higher, but the administrative costs are 3% instead of 15% that combined with eliminating the Investment Tax Cuts that went to the wealthiest 5% could more than pay for a Single Payer System. Just think you wouldn't have to pay Deductables, Co-Pays, Premiums, "Non-covered" out of pocket expenses and you wouldn't be denied for "pre-existing conditions."
In countries like England Doctors get financial incentives to get their patients healthy. In the U.S. Insurance/HMO administrators get financial incentives for DENYING COVERAGE TO SICK PATIENTS! Then there is the 47 Million Americans with No Healthcare Insurance at all!
But you would lose the FREEDOM to choose what Insurance or HMO would deny your coverage for not getting pre-approval on your Emergency room visit.

Yeah! like the abortion issue!
do you want the government telling people what to do?
ahem... now that i have attention-
but what about the millions of Americans who don't even have a social safety net to at least keep them from falling in the street at bus stops ( I saw that yesterday)
certainly keep private health care for those that have decent jobs,
but perhaps having a SAFETY NET would be a good idea as well.

What you fail to account for is that even if a national health care plan is enacted it will not be mandatory. Meaning if you are wealthy enough to afford your own private insurance, or if you just prefer to have your own insurance then you are free to pursue that course.
