Yes, I was a teenage in the 60's. I did get an allowance until I got a job. It wasn't much to speak of. You probably won't believe it. I got an entire dollar each week. Big Deal, right? I spent it on lipstick, back then. Now I don't even use lipstick. lol

I got a part-time job when I turned 16. I worked in a bowling alley as a fry cook/waitress. It was a small bowling alley with a very small food service area.

Once I started working, I had to buy all of my own clothes and anything else that I desired. My parents decided they didn't have to pay for anything for me that was of the personal nature.

My wages were 85 CENTS an hour plus tips. Wow!

Good luck on your school survey.

Yes, I turned 13 in 1968. I don't remember getting an allowance. If i did, it was probably a dollar. The only thing I remember buying back then is a single record for 68 cents at the department store I walked to. I never worked when I was in high school. I didn't have a driver's license. My family had one car and driving was never discussed. I really didn't need money - I didn't go anywhere to spend money like kids do today.

Yes, I did, I got $10.00 dollars a week, but it was also lunch money too. So I never ate. We would go to the movies which was only a quarter, and high school football games, and in the summer I stayed at the community pool which was free. I could fill my car up for 5 dollars. By the end of the week I usually had money left...But don't tell my mom she thought I had it rough. Those were the GOOD OLD DAYS!!!!

I never got an allowance, but I could earn money by doing extra chores. Sometimes my movie money came from collecting and selling pop bottles.

From what I have heard, they were difficult days.
People did not get pocket money like they do now. Neither they could easily earn a living. Jobs were so limited.
And people were always critical of youngsters and how they dressed or behaved.
So some became hippies!
