You cannot simply plug a wireless router in to your modem and expect it to work like magic.

First the router must be configured as your network. Then the pc's you want to use on the wireless must be configured to your network.

If you have a Linksys router, you can go to their site and download netset.exe. It's free. Make sure you get the version for your router's model # and revision. You will need an extra Ethernet cable to preform the automated setup. It's really easy. Each prompt in the program tells you what to do.

If you don't have a Linksys router and you don't have the configuration CD that came with the router, try the manufacturer's site for setup tools and information.

Additionally, you can find more online help here:

Good Luck :-)

Which laptop do you have?

Most newer laptops require you to turn on/enable wireless operation. Then you need to use the wireless connection wizard to find and connect to your network.

I would suggest connect an ethernet cable and setting up your security first. You do that by typing the address of you router and logging in.

Your router should have came with a manual or cd to help you through the process.

You will have to enable your network on your laptop. There should be instructions on the becessary steps that came with your router. You can also call the company that makes the router for help.
