It seems that when you look at the great civilizations throughout history, they've all fallen because of problems within (like a rotten apple core). What do you think is the greatest threat to the United States? Is it liberalism, socialism, conservatives, or radical Islam? Should we be concerned about the moral decline of our nation? Should we be concerned about how our children are more violent and exposed to drugs etc at younger and younger ages? What do you think of all this?

If you look at all the major civilizations throughout history, there was a single most resounding aspect that lead to the decline of that civilization. It was the lack and/or loss of morality and ethics.

If this country wants to maintain itself and continue to be the greatest nation ever, then it must return to a moral and ethical basis. That moral and ethical basis is simply the things that we as human beings have learned over the course of our existance. We should not kill each other. We should not steal from each other. We should respect our families and the families of our neighbors. And we should recognize there is a greater good than each of us individually.

Now all that being said, it clearly slaps in the face of liberalism, socialism and communism. Ever wonder why those societies have always failed?

I think the greatest threat to Democracy is not selfishness and possession, but communism. Democracy, in theory, gives the choices of existence to the majority of the people to decide. We don't have a "democracy," because the people are too powerless to affect a change in government representation when their representatives fail to deliver upon the interests of their constituents. Communism, which is what some of our politicians are trying to convince the people is best, is a flat denial of individual gains in lieu of sharing everything with everyone, including those that are either unable or unwilling to contribute to the 'greater good.' Such an ideology crushes the individual spirit, limits research and advances in science, and enforces a standard of morality and ethics on the people. The first step in promoting Democracy is to eradicate political parties and to reform campaign financing so that candidates are not nominated and elected based on which party they belong to and how much money they can raise.

The fundamental underlying concept that we have lost and is what is causing the decline in every aspect of our society is the erosion of federalism. This was the basic concept behind the founding fathers beliefs. A strong national government will usurp all rights. There has always and will always be corruption in politics but keeping it in the state level will limit the amount of power they can usurp. The move away from states rights to national power adds greater coffers for the corruption and tyranny. This has been mostly done through activist court rulings and legislation through pieces to slowly erode what made this country what it was. This is a goal of the left but every aspect of our decline can be linked back to the erosion of federalism. The scariest part of this is we have already moved past states sovereignty and we have begun fighting the erosion of our national sovereignty. I just hope its not too late to address the former while dealing with the latter.

The threat to the USA is not any ism.

We, the people, for whom it was created, are much of the problem. Moral decline at home will always lead to social and political decline on a grand scale. I think it's sad that so few people realize this, because it's something over which we all have a certain amount of control.

External threats need dealing with on a national level, but loose morals are the biggest problem we can all pitch in to fix in our own homes.

Yes we do need to be concerned about the drugs, violence, and morale decline in this nation. But right now the biggest thing we need to fear is the rise of Radical Islam and the far lefts not noticing that if we do not stop it all the rights they say they want will be gone.

As far as the young being less moral than the previous generation, this has been going on for some time:

"What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?"

Who said this? Plato. So people have thought this about the younger generation for some time now (at least since the 4th century BC). The funny thing is, the young always grow up.

I think that our morale decline is the driving force because it then leads to our drug problems, violence and other crimes, crooked politicians, lawyers, police, teachers....(fill in whatever occupation you want here) and it leads to lazy people who seem to have forgotten what pride and making something of yourself honestly are all about. This also ties into greed in the way that we are more concerned with getting what we want then with helping those in need. It seems we have also forgotten the importance of accountability and holding the correct person responsible for their actions and the importance of solid parenting.

The greatest threat is the loss of control over our elected officials to PAC's, which is no less legal bribery. When the citizens no longer have control over their own government, the government no longer does the will of the people. If we do not change that, then it is irrelevant what are morality, political agenda, and concerns are, because the government is no longer listening.

It is socialism that will bring down America, while of course the Islamic desire for world domination is a serious concern, we cannot fall to that threat without the socialists giving us up.

Socialism is a natural step in the progression of any civilization, and it means the civilization is in decline. To eliminate its effect we must get back to people being responsible for themselves and their families. This is often done through faith based initiatives.
