Actually I might go with Theodore Roosevelt. He was like a folk legend and did things before and after his presidency that were just unreal. Without him FDR would never have been elected either. so in essence FDR was an extension of him.

I couldn't argue too much with Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt or Jefferson as they are the most homored presidents and their faces are immortalized on Mt. Rushmore.

The greatest American President of ALL time - I would have to go with President Abraham Lincoln.

During the Civil War we had two Presidents both were born in the same State (Kentucky) and actually only a few counties apart.

During my lifetime - I would have to go with President Ronald Reagan.

It is very difficult to select one president as many have made great accomplishments- or created huge burdens- for our nation. However, when I judge overall the challenges faced by the president -war or peace, income of the people, changes made in society, even the personal life of the president- I am most probably most impressed by FDR. While he did not make as many accomplishments for race and gender as JFK, or Lincoln for freedom from slavery/plus stability of the US as a nation, many other presidents have other points on their records. I am not a fan of the Bush family, however, Bush, Sr. supported the Americans with Disability Amendment- that is something I must credit him (and the Congress who wrote it) for passing.

Overall, though, FDR did maintain a stable environment at a time of war- which this nation had no desire to be involved with- at a time when there was great hunger and poverty. He created Social Security and jobs when most had nothing- giving a way for mankind to have manhood when many lost hope. All the while, he himself felt a challenge of being stuck in a wheelchair and many other medical burdens and also kept this from interfering with his power. This I feel very impressive- probably as I not only agree with his political focuses, but also face many medical challenges.

Oh- and I guess I should also say I loved Clinton for his manner of promoting sexual freedom. Or at least encouraging future presidents to have their guests spend the night and get free White House dry cleaning.
