For a landscape estimating class in school we had to buy Labor & Equipment Rates For Landscape Contractors by Charles Vander Kooi. We also had to buy Landscape Estimating and Contract Administration by Stephen Angley, Edward Horsey, and David Roberts. These books are very helpful when trying to estimate projects. As you figure out how long it actually takes to do things you will know how to give a more accurate estimate. An education in horticulture is also very helpful.

You need to figure the time the job takes, the cost and upkeep of your equipment and how much money per hour you want to make. Don't forget to add in vehicle upkeep and insurance plus insurance and bonding to get a local license.
