missing persons (this is apart from the ever growing threat of terrorism of course). Is America really obsessed with this stuff because in Australia we're not? is it just Fox News trying to spread fear?

Wasn't Rupert Murdock an Aussie Media Magnate before he decided to buy the American Media !
If you haven't spent a lot of time watching, or reading, our Mainstream media, you might not be aware that Fox News, and all it's affiliates, are an ultra-right propaganda machine.
Showing the disasters, disappearances, trials and tribulations are their idea of "Happy News".
They don't dare take an honest look at our perilous position in world opinion, our true lack of a strategy in either war front we are faltering at, nor any subject that might show the Bush Mis-Administration in their true light.

Fear-mongering is what got Bush re-elected, and what has kept him able to ignore our constitution, and have his way with our "Bill of Rights".

Obsessed with disaster?

Try CNN for a few hours.
According to them, Katrina is still blowing in New Orleans. They have figured out which house will be the last to get razed or rebuilt and can't seem to get the cameras out from in front of it.

EDIT: They said last year, that due to global warming, there was little doubt of New Orleans being hit by four of five more CAT 5 Hurricanes. The fact is, last year, not one single Hurricane made land fall anywhere in the US.
They never did explain that one.

No shame

Are you really saying that Australian news doesn't show natural disasters? Come on.. I don't believe that for a minute.

And if nothing else.. Fox news gives us the amusement of forcing the mindless liberal masses to whine endlessly about how Fox News doesn't promote their personal political agenda. That's given us all countless hours of entertainment..

Well, the reason Fox "obsesses" over these things is that no one else cares enough to mention them. They are definitely exaggerated on TV, yes. But that's true of anything. If they were talking about the plight of some unheard-of species of endangered cricket, it would be similarly blown out of proportion. So basically, if you do a little research about what you see when you feel like they're presenting things unrealistically, you can easily find the truth of the matter.

Yes, you are correct. FOX news is a mouthpiece for the right wing, more accurately corporate America. Their reports focus on fear because it is easier to promote an personal agenda when the public is kept in line by fear.

it not just fox news it is ALL the 24/7 'news' shows. it is hard to fill all those hours so they have to fill the time slots by putting on anyone who has even a remotes connection with what ever 'event' they are reporting. they should now be classified as entertainment and we all know how we love our 'gossip'.

that is why i spend time here on YA, it is a welcome break from all that 'news'.

I cannot stand Fox News. They are obsessed with it and maybe some Americans are. But I stick with the other news channels.
